THE PROGRAMS: INTERNSHIPS

Paid internships for graduated 11th and 12th graders are a critical part of the strategy to touch the lives of students in meaningful, relevant ways. While typically conducted over 6 or 7 weeks of the summer, an internship can also offer employment during the school term. The priority is that the employment experience expose the student to one of the many work environments or jobs that utilize, depend on or leverage Information Technology. Typical work experiences that make excellent internships for bright high school juniors and seniors include Help Desk operator/analyst, website designer, network maintenance engineer, desktop configuration/imaging analyst, project controls administrator, eCommerce online researcher, data entry and data cleansing facilitator, and document repository maintenance clerk. In 2006 and 2007, fifteen student INTERalliance members worked successfully as interns at P&G, Cintas, EW Scripps, Atos Origin, and directly for the INTERalliance. A significantly expanded program in 2008 engaged eighteen more student members, with the ultimate goal to secure as many summer employment opportunities for graduated 11th and 12th grade students as possible.
