Founding members P&G, Atos Origin, and the UC College of Business developed
pilot programming and enlisted participation over the first three years from
other leading local organizations, including Chiquita, CincyTechUSA, Cincinnati
Bell Technology Solutions, Cintas, CIO Roundtable of Cincinnati, Citigroup, The
Citizens' Committee on Youth, Comair, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, EW Scripps, Fidelity
Investments, Fifth Third Bank, General Cable, Great American Insurance, Kroger,
Luxottica, Microsoft, SAP America, Scripps Howard Foundation, Stepping Stones
Center, and Toyota North America. In addition, this program was financially assisted
by the Charlotte R. Schmidlapp Fund, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee.
The
ultimate goal – to enlist and engage every single member
of the Cincinnati USA Regional
Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
A diverse group of local college-prep high schools were engaged, with the list
through summer 2007 including Cincinnati Christian Schools, Cincinnati Hills
Christian Academy, Cincinnati Country Day, Hughes Center HS, Indian Hill HS,
Mother of Mercy HS, Mount Notre Dame HS, St Henry District HS, St Xavier HS,
St Ursula Academy, Summit Country Day, Sycamore HS, Ursuline Academy, Walnut
Hills HS, Western Hills University HS, and Withrow University HS.
The ultimate goal – to enlist and engage all 47
high schools in the Ohio River Valley, plus every charter school
and every interested high-school-level student who is home-schooled
in the region. Targeted for 2007-2008: the addition of Aiken,
Boone County, Campbell County, Colerain, Covington Catholic, Centerville,
Dater, Elder, Highlands High, Lakota East, Lakota West, Madeira,
Mason, Notre Dame Academy, Seton, Springboro, Taft, Villa Madonna,
others.
The Information Systems Department in the College of Business of the University
of Cincinnati hosted proof-of-concept pilots in 2006 with two one-week IT Careers
Camps for just-graduated 10th graders. In 2007 they expanded to four one-week
sessions and in 2008 will host at least five sessions in July and August. 2007
also marks the year INTERalliance expands to Northern Kentucky University, with
two one-week sessions hosted by their College of Informatics, and two one-week
sessions at Miami University in Oxford, hosted by their Department of Computer
Science & Systems Analysis, School of Engineering and Applied Science. Altogether,
the summer of 2008 will offer nine one-week sessions of 20 students each, touching
the lives of 180 of our best and brightest young IT talent.
The ultimate goal – to enlist and engage all 14 local colleges
and universities that offer information-management and information technology
programs, including Xavier, Wright State, University of Dayton, Cincinnati State,
Tomas Moore, Gateway Community College, Sinclair Community College, College at
Mt St Joe, Raymond Walters College, DeVry, and ITT.
Changing the lives and perspectives of 80 of Cincinnati's
brightest young minds!
For four weeks starting on July 16th, twenty graduating 10th graders each week
got to experience a deep dive into the world of Information Technology at some
of the Greater Cincinnati region's leading employers.
The students were nominated by
their high schools for a wide variety of reasons, each responding
to the request from the INTERalliance for students "who would
get the most out of being shown what's available right here in Cincinnati
in the way of career opportunities in IT."
The 80 students were selected from 16 local college-prep high schools, including
Cincinnati Country Day, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, Cincinnati Christian
Schools, Hughes Center HS, Indian Hill HS, Mount Notre Dame HS, Mother of Mercy
High School, St. Henry's District High School, St. Ursula Academy, St. Xavier
HS, Summit Country Day School, Sycamore High School, Ursuline Academy, Walnut
Hills HS, Western Hills University High School, Withrow University High School.
